Frances M. Chappelle
LIMA, Ohio --- Frances M. Chappelle, 86, Lima, formerly of Topeka, died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at a Lima care center. She was born March 31, 1918, in Chicksha, Okla., to Marshall and Sue Freeman Johnston. Mrs. Chappelle was a retired speech therapist for Topeka Public Schools. She was a member of Shawnee United Methodist Church in Lima and Lima Senior Citizens. She also was associated with Mended Hearts.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan E. Chappelle and Carol L. Patrick and her husband, John B., both of Lima; a granddaughter, Kimberly Sue Patrick, Lima; a brother, Marshall Johnston and his wife, Mary, Harrison, Ark.; and a sister, Margaret Hinds, Tulsa, Okla.
Mrs. Chappelle was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Martha Lever; and a brother, James Johnston, who died in World War II.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home in Cridersville, Ohio. Graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Shawnee Cemetery in Lima. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Richard 'Ricky' D. Grosser
LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. --- Richard "Ricky" D. Grosser, 61, Lake Havasu City, Ariz., died Thursday, July 22, 2004.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Chapman United Methodist Church in Chapman, Kan. Inurnment will be in Indian Hill Cemetery in Chapman, Kan. Londeen Funeral Chapel in Chapman, Kan., is in charge of arrangements.
Charlotte Patrice Setness-Phillips
PARK RIVER, N.D. --- Charlotte Patrice Setness-Phillips, 56 , Topeka, formerly of Adams, N.D., died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio.
Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Victory Free Lutheran Church in Park River , N.D. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery near Adams, N.D. Friends may call at Barnes Family Funeral Service, Henriksen-Overbye Chapel, from 7 until 9 p.m. Saturday and an hour prior to services in the church.
Charlotte Patrice Setness was born May 8, 1948, at Grafton, N.D., the daughter of Willard and Verda Severson Setness. She was reared and educated at rural Adams, N.D., and attended Park River High School, graduating in 1967. She then attended Aakers Business College in Grand Forks, N.D., and lived in Grafton and Grand Forks.
On Feb. 2, 1972, she was united in marriage to David Phillips at Crookston, Minn. They made their home in Emporia, Kan., for four years and then moved to Topeka. For the last 30 years she had worked as a certified Nurses Assistant and certified med aid. She loved her work and enjoyed working with the people in the nursing homes.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
She was the best mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by her family.
Survivors include her husband, David; children, Jeannine Grimmett, Topeka, Suzanne Moore, and her husband, Randy, Little Rock, Ark., David Phillips Jr., Topeka, and Sean Phillips, and his wife, Margaret, Topeka; grandchildren, Stephanie, Dominic, Zachary and Lauren; mother, Verda Setness, Park River; sister, Luan Setness, Park River; and brother, Ronald Setness, and his wife, Debbie, Park River; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Martha Jane Shriver
WICHITA --- Martha Jane Shriver, 85, Wichita, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004. Mrs. Shriver was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garner E. Shriver, former U.S. Congressman from the 4th District in Kansas.
Mrs. Shriver was a member of Chapter EM of the PEO Sisterhood, National Society Daughters of the American Colonists, DAR - Daughters of the American Revolution, Helianthus Club, Fortnightly Book Club and Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America, Kansas Chapter No. 13.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay Kwon, Seaside, Calif., and Linda Breeding, Wichita; a son, David Shriver, McPherson; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at College Hill United Methodist Church in Wichita.
Memorial contributions may be made to College Hill United Methodist Church or the Kansas Dialysis Association and sent in care of Downing & Lahey Mortuary East in Wichita.
