The 72nd annual Kansas State High School Activities Association's coaching school will be held today through Friday at the Capitol Plaza Hotel.

Among the headliners scheduled to speak this week are Kansas football coach Mark Mangino and Texas Christian football coach Gary Patterson, a Kansas native, as well as new Kansas women's basketball coach Bonnie Henrickson.

Patterson, who has led Texas Christian to a 27-11 record in three seasons, will speak at 4 p.m. today, while Mangino, who led KU to a bowl game last fall in his second season, will speak at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Henrickson, who led Virginia Tech to a 158-62 record before taking the KU job, will speak at 1 and 2 p.m. today.

Jack Renkens, a former college basketball coach at Colby Community College, is the keynote speaker and will talk about the realities of college recruiting in sessions at 9:45 and 11 a.m. today.

In addition to Mangino, Patterson and Henrickson, other NCAA Division I head coaches scheduled to appear during the coaching school are KU baseball coach Ritchie Price and Jayhawk volleyball coach Ray Bechard.

Several local high school coaches will conduct sessions this week - -- Highland Park boys basketball coach Ken Darting, Topeka West boys basketball coach Chad Eshbaugh, Washburn Rural golf coach Jeff Stromgren and Shawnee Heights volleyball coach Kerry Kapfer.

KSHSAA coaching school sessions are not open to the public.

Thursday's headliners: Football: Mark Mangino, Kansas head coach; Volleyball: Ray Bechard, Kansas head coach; Basketball: Ken Darting, Highland Park H.S. boys coach.

Friday's headliners: Basketball: Annette Wiles, Fort Hays State women's coach; Wrestling: Mike Denny, Nebraska-Omaha head coach; Football: John McCall, Olathe North H.S. head coach.
