BOTHELL, Wash. --- Donald M. Gleckler, 90, Bothell, Wash., died Aug. 12, 2004. He was born in Pratt, Kan., and graduated from Southwestern College. He began teaching in 1934 and his career provided him with fond memories of 19 years of teaching and directing choral groups at Topeka High School. He also directed the choir at First Methodist Church and was on the staff of Midwestern Music Camp at The University of Kansas for many years.

After earning an advanced degree at KU, he joined the faculty at Willamette University in Salem, Ore., where he enjoyed teaching public school music and directing choral activities.

In 1965, he changed course, and following doctoral studies in educational psychology at the University of Washington, he began work with the Northshore School District in Bothell. He retired in 1979 as director of special education.

His lifelong love of music and the outdoors were eagerly shared with family and friends. His love of mountain hiking and passion for trout fishing took him to Estes Park, Colo., many summers as YMCA Camp hike master. They will recall what a privilege it was to have known him and to have been directed by him.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Gleckler; and a son, Stephen Gleckler.

He is survived by his wife, Lola Gleckler; daughter, Susan Palmason; grandchildren, Don Van Lierop, Chris Van Lierop, Krista Keller and Karen Gates; and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial celebration of his life was Aug. 26 at Bothell United Methodist Church.

Remembrances may be made to Washington Alzheimer's Association, 12721 30th Ave. N.E., Suite 101, Seattle, Wash. 98125; or Evergreen Hospice, 12822 124th Lane N.E., Kirkland, Wash., 98034.
