Youth soccer team goes 7-1 to win Lawrence league

The Topeka Rockets, a 13-and-under boys soccer team, recently won first place in the Lawrence U-13/U-14 Futsal soccer league at Sport- 2-Sport.

The Rockets finished the league with seven wins and one tie against teams from Lawrence, Ottawa, Perry and the Kansas City area.

The Rockets outscored their opponents 50 goals to 21 in eight games.

Team members are Scott Livingston, Cullen Swearingen, Dalton Westphal, Jon Davies, Tyler Jordan, Casey Waniska, Jake Shafer and Justin Ives.

Randy Jordan is the team's coach.

Local team wins regular season, tournament titles

The Topeka Lutheran School sixth- and seventh-grade volleyball team won first place in the B flight of the Topeka Parochial League regular season and tournament.

The Wildcats finished the season 42-3 and brought home top honors at the Topeka Lutheran School Invitational volleyball tournament, which included Lutheran schools from Kansas City and Wichita.

The team is coached by Walt Malone and Rachael Rost.

Team members are seventh graders Kristin Lange, Emily Rost, Rachel Kueck, Delanie Atteberry and Rachel LaCrone; and sixth graders Emily Tilton, Alyssa Perry and Morgan Cox.

Wrestling club

opens season

The Junior Viking Wrestling Club kicked off its 2004-05 USA Wrestling season by participating in the Rossville Holiday wrestling tournament Saturday.

Nathan Stanley, 10, and Zach Reeb, 14, won their age and weight divisions.

Next up for the Junior Vikings is the Paola Open on Jan. 2 and the Woods Classic on Jan. 8 at Chanute.

Following are the club's results from Rossville:
