Lucille E. Ames

Lucille E. Ames, 94, Topeka, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at a Topeka care center.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.

Arthur Ford Jr.

A funeral service for Arthur Ford Jr., 56, Topeka, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Bowser-Johnson Funeral Chapel. Mr. Ford died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004.

Mr. Ford will lie in state after 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel, where visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Topeka Cemetery.

Virginia May Hoss

Virginia May Hoss, 84, formerly of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at a Wichita nursing home.

She was born Dec. 28, 1919, in LeRoy, the daughter of Frank and Hattie Eccles Kaufman.

She married Donald Clifford Hoss. He preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 1984.

She is survived by her children, Penelope "Penny" Bartlett, Wichita, Terry Hoss, and his wife, Melba, Topeka, and Candela "Candy" Sue Reed, and her husband, Philip, Kansas City, Mo.; her sisters, Freeda Dobbs, Seattle, and Helen Shockey, Abilene; her granddaughters, Tracy Slade, Wichita, Ginger Hill, El Dorado, Christine Crump, Kansas City, Mo., and April Giesmann, St. Louis; and six great-grandsons.

Mrs. Hoss will lie in state and family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 S.W. Urish Road. A funeral service for Mrs. Hoss will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery.

Larry Duane Johnson Jr.

Larry Duane Johnson Jr., 40, Topeka, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, at a Topeka hospital.

He was born Sept. 18, 1964, in Topeka, the son of Larry D. Johnson Sr. and Harriett Owens Johnson, of Topeka. Larry was educated in Topeka Public Schools, graduating from Topeka High School in 1983. He attended The University of Kansas for a year and later graduated with an associates degree in mortuary science from Kansas City, Kan., Community College.

His work specialty was knowing how to clean and preserve floors and carpets. He worked for himself and two other companies using his specialty.

He gave his heart to the Lord more than a year ago and attended the Church of God Fellowship. He was a servant. If you needed help with anything, a handout, a ride, a good laugh or a place to lay your head for a few days, Larry was there for you.

Larry had four loves --- his wife, daughter, immediate family and sports --- and on Sunday afternoon you could find him at the bowling alley. He also loved to fish. His new sport was hunting with a bow and arrow and helping out at his parents' Christmas tree farm.

Larry married Felicia Slaughter on Aug. 24, 1996, in Topeka. She survives.

He also is survived by his 5-year-old daughter, Jazmine; his parents, Larry Sr. and Harriett, Topeka; a brother, Amri, Atlanta; grandmother, Laura Johnson, Topeka; brother-in-law, Stacy, Topeka; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins throughout the country.

The family will receive guests at Bowser-Johnson Funeral Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. The funeral and interment services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, an education fund as been set up at US Bank in the name of his daughter, Jazmine.

Louis H. Keener

Louis H. Keener, 78, Topeka, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at a Topeka care facility.

He was born Feb. 20, 1926, in Wakefield, the son of Lee L. and Augusta A. Bregen Keener. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Keener was employed as a mechanic for the Kansas National Guard until retiring in 1981.

He was a member of Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion and two senior bowling leagues.

He married Dorothy M. Benton on Aug. 22, 1952, in Osage City. She survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Terri L. Gibbs, Baldwin City; a son, Everett L. Keener, Baldwin City; five grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Jones, Abilene.

Mr. Keener was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in Emmanuel Cemetery southeast of Topeka, where military honors will be presented by Philip Billard Post No. 1650 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Keener will lie in state at the funeral home from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Harriet Selma Kolman

Harriet Selma Kolman, 85, Topeka, formerly of Boca Raton, Fla., died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at Homestead of Topeka.

She was born Nov. 24, 1919, in Baltimore, the daughter of Karl and Pearl Jeanne Leberman. She was a graduate of the Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore in 1941 and worked for many years as a nurse at Sinai Hospital and as a volunteer nurse for the American Red Cross until moving to Florida.

She married Irvin Rubin Kolman on Feb. 28, 1942. He preceded her in death on April 15, 2001.
