James F. Otten, D.D.S., of Lawrence, was one of 18 practitioners selected worldwide to serve on the Lead Visiting Faculty at the Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education in Key Biscayne, Fla. In January, Dr. Otten facilitated a weeklong interactive class.

The Pankey Institute is recognized by leading dental associations and attracts students from around the world.

Jim Reardon, of Topeka, has been elected to a third year on the Financial Planning Association of Greater Kansas City's board of directors. Reardon is director of governmental relations for the association and is the board's registered lobbyist in the Legislature.

The president of People's Wealth Management LLC, of Topeka, Reardon is a certified financial planner specializing in retirement planning and asset management. He is a graduate of Kansas State University and Washburn University School of Law.

Gianfranco Pezzino, M.D., director of Public Health Studies at the Kansas Health Institute, attended a training program of the Evaluators' Institute from Jan. 10 through 22 in San Francisco.

Pezzino participated in courses on qualitative data analysis, linking evaluation questions to analysis techniques and performance measurement. He has applied his evaluation skills in Kansas by measuring the bioterrorism preparedness of local health departments and evaluating the state's homeland security programs.

Betsey Litscher, with the Lake Shawnee Preschool, was awarded a Child Development Associate credential in recognition of her work with children by the Council for Professional Recognition in Washington, D.C.

As part of the CDA assessment process, Litscher was observed working with young children by an early childhood professional. Additionally, the CDA credential recognizes her demonstrated ability to work with families to develop children's intellectual capabilities.

Steven Golden, of Independence, and Ashley McMillan, of Jamestown, received the 2005 Clyde Hill Legislative Internship.

Golden and McMillan are seniors at Washburn University. They each will spend at least 20 hours per week during the spring semester assisting a legislator by doing research, helping with constituent service, tracking bills and keeping schedules.

Golden is a senior majoring in English and is a tutor in the Washburn writing lab.

McMillan is a senior majoring in political science. She is president of the Washburn Student Government Association and interned in Washington, D.C., with Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan.

Vera Streit was appointed to serve on the education committee of the Kansas State Board of Nursing. Streit is nursing program coordinator for the Practical/Associate Degree Nursing Program co- sponsored by North Central Kansas Technical College and Cloud County Community College.

Scott Hunsicker, LUTCF, of Kansas Financial Resources, earned the Chartered Financial Consultant designation from The American College, an independent, accredited, nonprofit educational institution based in Pennsylvania.

Hunsicker joined Kansas City Life Insurance Co. in 1983 as an agent. He became a general agent in 1994. The next year he became a general agent for Sunset Financial Services, a registered broker- dealer and affiliate of Kansas City Life.

Hunsicker is a longtime member of the company's President Club.

Hunsicker lives in Topeka with his wife, Sherry, and their two sons.

Robert Ginder, of Topeka, a Modern Woodmen of America representative, completed a five-day educational program at Modern Woodmen's home office in Rock Island, Ill. The program focused on helping families with Modern Woodmen life insurance plans, annuities and fraternal member benefits.

Gary Gilbert, a Kansas Midas dealer, received the Retail Sales award and was recognized for the highest district sales volume for his shop at 2801 S. Iowa St., in Lawrence.

Gilbert operates six shops in Topeka, Overland Park, Manhattan, Salina and Lawrence.

Norman-Armando Gamboa, director of orchestras at Washburn University, was selected to participate in the 2005 Orquestra Sinfonica do Estado de Sao Paulo International Orchestral Conducting Competition hosted by the Sao Paulo State Symphony Orchestra from Feb. 9 through 12 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Gamboa received a bachelor's degree at Baylor University and a master's degree at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He has served as assistant conductor with the Baylor University Symphony Orchestra and as cover conductor with the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica.

Gamboa joined the Washburn University music department faculty in August.
