Birthdays
Opal Redwine, Topeka, will celebrate her 90th birthday as guest of honor at an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. May 29 at West Side Christian Church, 432 S.W. Lindenwood.
She was born April 20, 1915, in Petersburg, Neb., and moved with her family to Pingree Township, North Dakota, at age 18 months. She earned her nursing degree at Valley City (N.D.) College.
She married Ernest Redwine on June 27, 1945, in Pingree, N.D. Both served in the U.S. Air Force.
Mrs. Redwine, a registered nurse, provided private nursing from 1947 and 1949. She worked from 1950 at Christ's Hospital, which later became Stormont-Vail, until she retired in 1981. She was head nurse on 7-West and received the Carl C. Lamley Memorial Award for Distinguished Service on Feb. 24, 1976.
She requests no gifts.
June Branson, Carbondale, will celebrate her 80th birthday as guest of honor at an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. June 4 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Darlene Branson, 13383 S. Lewelling Road in Carbondale.
Mrs. Branson's birthdate is June 1.
She requests no gifts.
Edward M. Snook, Topeka, celebrated his 80th birthday on May 20.
He was born May 20, 1925, in Kansas City, Mo., and has lived in Topeka since age 6 months.
Mr. Snook served in the U.S. Navy from August 1943 until December 1945. He worked as a carpenter until he retired in May 1987.
He married Beth Swatzell on June 13, 1953, and had a stepson, Robert Swatzell, who died on April 26, 1995. Mr. Snook has three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mary Karnowski Dinkel, Topeka, will celebrate her 80th birthday as guest of honor at a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. May 29 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
Hosts will be her six children and spouses. Also attending will be her 13 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Mrs. Dinkel and her husband, Bill, will celebrate their 55th anniversary May 29. They were married May 29, 1950, at Holy Name Church in Topeka.
Carl K. Nall, Topeka, will celebrate his 85th birthday Friday.
He was born May 27, 1920, in Baxter Springs. He graduated from Emporia Teachers College in 1947. He served under Gen. George Patton in a top secret intelligence gathering unit in Germany during World War II.
Mr. Nall taught retail selling for 35 years at Topeka High School and Kaw Area Technical School.
He and his wife Betty also owned and operated Capital Heights Pre- School at 3330 S.W. 29th, until the June 8, 1966, tornado destroyed their school.
Mr. and Mrs. Nall have four children, Bruce, Littleton, Co.; David, Lincroft, N.J.; Robert, Topeka; and Mary, Lawrence; and one grandchild, Andrew, Littleton, Co.
Mr. Nall will celebrate his birthday by attending his Class of 1938 high school reunion in Johnson, accompanied by his wife, son Robert and daughter Mary.
