Motorcyclist hurt

in crash

A Manhattan motorcyclist was taken to The University of Kansas Hospital on Wednesday with disabling injuries, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Hospital spokesman Dennis Minich said Thursday that he couldn't confirm or deny that James E. Johnston, 80, of Manhattan, was a patient.

Johnston was driving a 1986 Honda motorcycle when he was injured in a crash at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday on US-24 and Flush Road in Pottawatomie County.

The highway patrol accident report said a 2004 Honda Civic was eastbound on US-24 and Johnston was northbound on Flush.

The driver of the Civic, Andrew W. Elmore, 25, also of Manhattan, swerved to miss Johnston, the report said. Johnston struck the rear passenger side of the Civic and was thrown from the motorcycle. Elmore wasn't injured.
