Ballard's Sports Outlet, 5918 S.W. 21st, will close its doors Thursday.

The shop, which offers Kansas State University and University of Kansas items, as well as clothes and shoes, has been open in Topeka since 1993, said Allen Yungeberg, manager of the Topeka location. There is another location in Manhattan, which will remain open.

Ballard's in Topeka is having a going-out-of-business sale.

Hours will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Thursday.

Union plans Onex vote

TULSA, Okla. --- About 700 aircraft mechanics in Tulsa and McAlester are scheduled to vote Thursday on a proposed four-year contract with a unit of Onex Corp., the company that bought Boeing Co.'s Oklahoma operations in May.

Overall, 97 percent of parents with young children said they read to them, with 93 percent claiming to do so at least two or three nights per week.
