FERNANDO ALONSO is ready to begin the Formula One season as defending champion.

"This weekend I will have No. 1 on the car, so it's a dream come true," the Spaniard said leading to Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix.

Alonso, who became the youngest F1 champion last season at age 24, will be looking to keep his title with Renault before moving to McLaren in 2007.

MIGUEL DUHAMEL won the pole for the Daytona 200 motorcycle race Thursday for the second straight year, posting a fast lap of 105.224 mph on a Honda.

If Duhamel wins Saturday, he will become the first six-time winner in race history. Duhamel tied Scott Russell with his fifth victory last March.
