Holton
The Holton golfers took 14th at the Andover Tournament, led by Brent Bechard's 83.
Jefferson West
West's softballers started 4-0 with sweeps of St. Marys (3-2 and 6-5) and Hiawatha (25-0, 17-2). Kyane Stortzum scored the game- winner in the ninth of the opener on a delayed steal of home and then drove in the game-winner in the nightcap against St. Marys. ... The Tiger golfers won the Northern Heights Invitational in Emporia, finishing 16 strokes ahead of St. Marys with a 346. Chris Kaberline won the meet with an 82 and Jon DeMaranville was fourth with an 85. ... The Tiger baseball team is 6-0 after sweeps of Tonganoxie (10- 0, 15-0), Royal Valley (7-2, 9-5) and Holton (4-2, 5-1).
Lyndon
The Tiger girls' track team won its own meet, scoring 130 points. Andrea Hoke set school records in the shot put (37-1 1/4) and discus (114-2 3/4) and also won the javelin (119-8 1/2) with all three marks placing her among the state leaders. Lyndon also got wins from Krista Banzhaf (800), Ashley Persinger (long jump) and the 400 and 3,200 relays. The Tiger girls also won the MdCV Invitational with 130 poitns. Hoke again won all three throwing events and led a 1-2- 3 finish in the javelin with Cassey Thompson and Cara Bolz. The Tigers' 1,600 and 3,200 relays posted wins. ... The Tiger softball team went 1-1 at the Chase County Tournament, beating Flinthills (8- 2). Ashley Bronson struck out 15 and had 9 hits in the tourney.
MdCV
Chisom Spencer (long jump) and Jessica Schmidt (triple jump) were event winners for the Trojans at the Lyndon Invitational, each adding another top-four finish.
Mission Valley
The Viking softball team opened the season 2-2 with splits with Rock Creek (lost 3-2, won 7-4) and Wabaunsee (won 1-0, lost 10-0). Michelle Converse was 7-14 in the games. ... The baseball team is 0- 4 after getting swept by Wabaunsee (10-0, 12-0) and Rock Creek (10- 0, 3-0). Chase Hodges has struck out six in eight innings and had two hits against Wabaunsee. Ben Konda struck out six against Wabaunsee. ... In track, the Viking boys were third and the girls second at the Onaga Quad. Nicole Johnson won the discus (108-4) and shot (34-0) and Zach Traphagan won the 100 (11.09) and 200 (22.82). Garret Tennison added the other Viking win in the high jump (5-8) and there were 12 runner-up efforts including three from Abigail Browning.
Northern Heights
Winless a year ago, the Heights softball team ended its losing streak with a win over St. Marys. ... Jacquelyne Leffler won the shot (39-9) and discus (114-6) at the Royal Valley Invitational. Amy Lee (3,200) and Kelly Fields (high jump) also posted wins for the girls, who were fourth. The boys finished second and got wins from David Hamman (100, 200), John VanGundy (400), Tim Meahl (800), Trey Bitler (3,200) and the 1,600 and 3,200 relays.
Osage City
The Indian baseball team was swept by Rossville in its season- opener. Kyle Wolf had two hits and 3 RBIs and Jake Atkisson had two hits. ... Nick Stoppel won the high jump at the Royal Valley Invitational, going 6-3.
Oskaloosa
Shortstop Megan Reed signed a softball letter of intent with Oklahoma Christian. Reed hit .333 in a split with McLouth as the Bears started the season 4-2, also splitting with Holton (won 6-5, lost 3-2) and sweeping Valley Falls (8-5, 3-2). Ali King struck out 14 against McLouth and Lyndsey Ottensmeier had three RBIs against Holton. ... The Bears baseball swept McLouth (6-1 and 19-11) with Cody Heston was 5-for-7 and Brock McGinnis 5-for-8 with McGinnis belting two homers. Josh Weis drove in 5. They improved to 4-0 after sweeping Valley Falls (21-6, 12-7). Cody Heston and Boone Heston are each 2-0 and Cody Heston and McGinnis both have 2 homers.
Perry-Lecompton
Perry's girls took third at the Basehor-Linwood Invitational, led by a pair of first-place finishes from Maggie Kuhlman in the 1,600 and 3,200 and a runner-up effort from Terra Gauger in the 400. Megan Elder placed fourth in three events. ... Perry's two-man team of Jared Drummond and Kyle Morgison finished third at the Wamego Invitational, six shots behind Sabetha. Drummond shot an 80 and took second.
Rossville
Rossville started the baseball season 4-0 with sweeps of Osage City (12-2, 13-1) and Riley County (11-1, 16-8) before getting swept by Pleasant Ridge (9-8 in 12 innings, 5-4). Chris Linnemann had two homers against Riley and was 9-for-13 in the four games, also getting two wins. Seavor Askren was 8-for-12 and Kelby Brown homered twice. ... The softball team nearly matched the start, going 3-1 with a split against Osage City (lost 11-1, won 8-1) and sweep of Riley County (3-2, 2-0). Sarah Catron had the shutout of Riley and led the Bulldogs with a .384 average. Arica Shepard tripled twice. ... Trace McDiffett and Josh Meyer took fifth in the two-man division of the Wamego Invitational and both placed in the top 11 at the Emporia Invitational with McDiffett taking seventh with an 86. ... Alyssa Howard was Rossville's lone winner at the Silver Lake Invitational, taking the 100 hurdles title (17.17). She also finished second in the 300 hurdles while Josey McDiffett was second in the shot and third in the javelin as the Bulldogs tied for third. Andrew Kolber was the Bulldogs' lone winner at the Wabaunsee Invitational, taking the javelin title. Howard also swept the hurdle titles at the Royal Valley Invitational.
