Fans and one-room window air conditioners will be given away beginning today as part of Project Neighborhood Relief, a partnership between the city of Topeka and some social service agencies.
City officials announced last week they had acquired about 100 one-room air conditioners and 200 fans that they would make available to eligible Topekans who submit applications at Let's Help's senior services building at 234 S. Kansas Ave., or by calling the agency at 270-5265. City housing and neighborhood development director Randy Speaker said 102 applications had been received by late Tuesday.
The National Weather Service predicts Topeka temperatures today will top out at 101 degrees.
