Jobs workshop

Topeka Youth Project's Jobs for Young Adults workshop, for young people age 16 to 20, Monday through Oct. 27, 1100 S.W. Gage Blvd. The workshop consists of how to get and keep a good job, how to get along with boss and co-workers, communication, decision making, drug/ alcohol information and problem solving skills. For retailers

The Small Town and Rural Community Retailers Summit will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 5, at the Courtyard by Marriott Convention Center in Junction City. The summit is organized by Innovative Solutions in collaboration with the Kansas Department of Commerce, the Kansas Small Business Development Center, NetWork Kansas and Kansas State University Research and Extension. Summit participants will develop a better understanding of the challenges confronting rural and small town retailers, and identify the resources and capabilities needed to change the downward trends in their competitiveness. NEW FACES

Ashley Tedesco has joined the staff at Indian Hills Styling Salon, 5123 S.W. 29th, as a full time stylist and nail technician. She attended Littleton (Colo.) Academy of Hair Design and has received training in high and low lighting techniques and foil placement, as well as application and removal of hair extensions. Tedesco specializes in high and low lighting, haircuts, color correction, pedicures, facial waxing, perming and manicures. She can be reached Tuesday through Saturday at 273-1999.

Pete Doll has joined Jade Travel in their vacation department. Doll comes to Jade Travel after a distinguished career with the YMCA spanning 35 years. Aron Shuler, D.V.M., has joined Family Pet Hospital, 2220 S.E. 29th. Shuler graduated from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in May.

Kana R. Lydick has joined the law firm of Henson, Clark, Hutton, Mudrick & Gragson LLP as an associate attorney. Lydick received her undergraduate and law degrees from Washburn University. She was admitted to the Kansas bar on Sept. 28. Lydick practices primarily in the areas of general civil litigation, and also practices in labor and employment law and bankruptcy. She is a member of the Topeka Bar Association, the Kansas Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Topeka Area Bankruptcy Council.

Matthew J. Wills, M.D., a neurosurgeon, has joined the medical staff at Cotton-O'Neil Clinic, 823 S.W. Mulvane. Wills received his medical degree at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Chapel Hill, and did an internship in general surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, in 1994. Wills also completed a residency in neurological surgery and a fellowship in neurological spine surgery also at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Julie McCollum has been named child care director/team leader for the newly formed collaboration between the Community Action Early Head Start Program and the YMCA of Topeka. This new collaboration between Community Action Head Start, TARC Inc. and the YMCA will serve children from 3 week to 3 years. McCollum was the former director of the YMCA's Early Learning Program and has returned to the YMCA to oversee this program to be located at the Community Action Hudson Center.

Mike Frost, Fred Bourne, Larry Byrd and Joe Calkins have joined the service department of Custom Sheetmetal & Roofing Inc. They formerly worked for McElroy's Inc. They join Bob Feldhausen, Rick Stice and Dan McCulloch in providing plumbing, heat, air conditioning and refrigeration service to residential and commercial customers.

Elizabeth Brey has been hired to coordinate the Allied Health programs at Highland Community College. Brey formerly was HIPAA officer and assistant director of medical records at Sabetha Community Hospital. Brey received her associate degree from Highland, bachelor's degree from Kansas State University and juris doctor degree from Washburn University School of Law.
