Chiefs will be backin River Falls for '08
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Chiefs president Carl Peterson announced on Wednesday that the club has exercised its one-year option to continue conducting its training camp at the University of Wisconsin at River Falls in 2008.
Kansas City's 2008 training camp on the River Falls campus will mark the 18th consecutive year the Chiefs have spent preseason workouts at that location. The team has two remaining one-year options in its existing agreement with the school should the Chiefs wish to exercise them.
"On behalf of the entire Chiefs organization, we are pleased to return to the University of Wisconsin River Falls for an 18th consecutive year," Peterson said. "Both UW-RF and the entire River Falls community have embraced the Chiefs over the years."
Thanks to a $2.4 million dollar funding package from the state of Wisconsin and UW-River Falls students, the school made a number of improvements to Knowles Arena on the campus, which the Chiefs have enjoyed since 2005.
Matt hasselbeck wore a black and a blue necklace, intertwined and laced with titanium, throughout practice. It's the fashion rage among baseball players these days.
"Worked for the Red Sox. Trying it," the Boston-area native and former Boston College Eagles quarterback said Wednesday.
The Seahawks quarterback hopes it works for achy sides, too.
Hasselbeck made it through his first practice since he strained his right oblique muscle in a win over St. Louis on Oct. 21, though he appeared bothered.
LIONS QUARTERBACK JON KITNA and his wife dressed up as a naked man and a fast-food drive-through attendant at a teammate's Halloween party, depicting an embarrassing moment for one of the team's assistant coaches.
Now Kitna is getting some flak on local TV and in a newspaper column. Kitna said he was just trying to have fun, but regrets the scrutiny the costumes created.
"If I would've known this, I wouldn't have done it because I didn't want to try to bring attention to it," Kitna said Wednesday while surrounded by reporters and television cameras.
Defensive line coach Joe Cullen pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct and guilty to impaired driving after he was arrested twice last year, once in August 2006 after police said he was driving nude through a Wendy's drive-through lane.
49ERS KICKER JOE NEDNEY was fined $7,500 by the NFL on Wednesday for making an obscene gesture at his home fans during last week's game against New Orleans.
Nedney blamed frustration for his sly gesticulation in the third quarter of the 49ers' 31-10 loss to the Saints at Candlestick Park, their fifth consecutive defeat.
After Nedney made a 29-yard field goal, he booted the ensuing kickoff out of bounds. Nedney tossed his helmet and kicking tee in anger.
That's when a fan's obscene comment prompted Nedney to rub the back of his skull with his middle finger - an image captured by television cameras.
