NEW FACES

Gina C. Maree has been named director of health care finance and organization for the Kansas Health Institute. Maree oversees KHI's research and analysis on public and private health insurance, health care markets and costs, safety net providers and health information technology. Maree previously was deputy regional inspector general for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General, Office of Evaluation and Inspections and acting director of the Medicaid branch of the HHS Office of Inspector General, Office of Evaluation and Inspections in Washington, D.C. Maree is a licensed social worker.

Kirsten Evans, M.D., has joined the Pediatric Hospitalist Program at Stormont-Vail HealthCare. Evans received her medical degree from The University of Kansas School of Medicine. She completed an internship followed by a residency at the KU Medical Center, Kansas City. She is board certified in pediatrics. Most recently, Evans was a faculty member in the Department of Pediatrics at the KU Medical Center. She also previously practiced at Pediatric Associates of Topeka, PA.

Scarlet Sheley, Terry Knudsen and Nicole Jameson are new employees at Avenue Hairstyling and Day Spa, 807 S. Kansas Ave. Sheley is a part-time massage therapist, specializing in Swedish massage, deep tissue, hot stone massage, sports massage, pre and post natal and chair massage. She graduated from Pinnacle Career Institute. Knudsen's duties as massage therapist and body works include body wraps, salt glows, hot stone, pre and post natal, deep tissue and chair massage. She graduated from Pinnacle Career Institute in Lawrence. Jameson is a stylist and nail technician, specializing in high fashion styles and cuts for men and women, hair color, highlights, body waxing and all nail services. She graduated from community college of cosmetology in 2005.

NAMES

Laura Bilstein was named Optician of the Year by the members of the Opticians Association of Kansas at its annual meeting in Wichita. Bilstein serves as secretary treasurer of OAK, Bilstein is manager of Byers Optical Fairlawn.

RETIREMENTS

Sgt. Craig Fox retired Friday after 29 years with the Topeka Police Department. Fox began is career as a patrol officer in 1978. He was promoted to corporal in 1985 and to detective in 1987. He was promoted to sergeant in 1992 and served in patrol. In 2005 he transferred to the criminal investigations division, where he served until his retirement.

Sgt. Jim Roy retired Friday after 28 years with the Topeka Police Department. Roy started as a patrol officer in 1979 and served in the patrol, K-9 and vice united. He was promoted to sergeant in 1998 and served in the traffic and bike units. He transferred in 2005 to the training unit, where he served until his retirement.
