Two people were taken to a Topeka hospital after a vehicular accident Thursday afternoon at S.W. 10th and Mulvane.

A purple Dodge Caravan minivan and a black Ford Escort collided in the intersection at about 3:30 p.m., police said.

The female driver of the minivan was taken by American Medical Response ambulance to St. Francis Health Center, police said. Several children who were in the minivan weren't believed to have suffered injuries.

The driver of the Escort also was taken by ambulance to St. Francis with what police said were minor injuries. Police said a passenger in the Ford appeared to be uninjured.

Officer David Gogian said the minivan was southbound on S.W. Mulvane and was proceeding through the intersection while the Ford was westbound on S.W. 10th at the time of the crash.

Gogian said, based on witness accounts, the Ford went through a red light while the minivan was in the intersection on a green light.

The minivan sustained heavy damage on the driver's side, while the front of the Ford was smashed.

Pavement on S.W. 10th was wet from melting snow late Thursday afternoon. Gogian said the street's condition didn't appear to contribute to the crash.
