Press will crank back up

The Topeka Capital-Journal expected single-copy sales to increase dramatically Tuesday morning, but University of Kansas basketball fans, as well as historians, were still buying copies Wednesday afternoon when supplies were exhausted.
"We ran out of papers around 2 p.m. Wednesday, even though we increased single-copy inventory more than 70 percent," said publisher Mark Nusbaum. "Obviously, the demand exceeded our expectation.
"As a result, we're cranking the press back up Thursday. We plan to run off several thousand more copies in hopes that we can accommodate folks who are interested in keepsakes."
Nusbaum said those papers will be available at The Capital- Journal, 616 S.E. Jefferson, beginning at 8 a.m. Friday.
Nusbaum said The Capital-Journal will continue to offer the Tuesday newspaper for 50 cents, although it had one caller Wednesday interested in offering her paper for $10 in a classified ad.
"That caller may have had the right idea, but we'll keep it at 50 cents," Nusbaum said. "We're just happy to be part of something this historic."
The Capital-Journal also will be publishing a special section in Friday morning's paper featuring the Jayhawk basketball team's accomplishments throughout the season, as well as its dramatic overtime win Monday night in the national championship game.
