One hospitalized after crash
An elderly man sustained what authorities said were injuries not considered to be life-threatening in a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in southeast Shawnee County.
The accident occurred at 2:26 p.m. at S.E. 53rd and Berryton Road.
Shawnee County sheriff's Sgt. Akim Reynolds said a four-door Honda passenger car was westbound on S.E. 53rd when it failed to yield the right of way at S.E. Berryton Road and was "T-boned" by a Chevrolet crew cab pickup truck that was traveling north on S.E. Berryton. The pickup truck was pulling a 16-foot trailer.
The driver of the Honda was taken to a Topeka hospital by American Medical Response ambulance. Reynolds said the driver was wearing a seat belt and the car's side-curtain air bag deployed.
The pickup truck's driver and a passenger also were wearing seat belts and didn't report any injuries.
Neighborhood hit with graffiti
Topeka police said they took about 15 reports of criminal damage to property on Sunday after graffiti appeared overnight on garages in the city's Highland Park neighborhood.
Police officer Aaron Bulmer said that the graffiti was found on garages in the east alley of the 2500 to 2800 blocks of S.E. Wisconsin.
The graffiti had a symbol resembling a "T" with an "M" superimposed on it and included the numbers "420."
Anyone with information on the graffiti is asked to call police at (785) 368-9464.

Prostitution sting nets arrests
Four people were arrested Saturday when Topeka police conducted a prostitution sting in a Weed and Seed target area west of S.W. Topeka Boulevard and south of S.W. 6th.
During the four-hour operation, officers arrested two women, ages 51 and 57, in connection with soliciting acts of prostitution and interference with a police officer.
In addition, two other women, ages 51 and 52, were arrested on outstanding city warrants.
All four were booked into the Shawnee County Jail.
Weed and Seed is a federally funded program where police are paid overtime from federal grants to "weed" out activity in targeted areas. Neighborhood associations then attempt to "seed" the area with law-abiding citizens to improve the quality of life in their vicinity.
