Mater Dei Spring Fling and Carnival, 11 a.m. today at S.W. 10th and Clay. Lunch is $3.50. Dinner, which costs $6, will be served from 5 to 8 p.m. Dancing under the stars begins at 8 p.m. Open to the public. Proceeds will benefit Mater Dei parish and school.

Suffragan Bishop Daniel Chavis will be the guest speaker at a special service at 4 p.m. Sunday at Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, 2420 S.E. Bellview.

Tim Hannig will perform comedy, music, illusion and more, 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at Rossville High School, 800 S. Main in Rossville. Admission is free. Doors open at 6 p.m.

People

Tito Wortham, son of Carmen Landry and Deric Wortham, has been called to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hong Kong for two years. He will enter the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, on Wednesday. Wortham is a 2007 graduate of Washburn Rural High School and is a member of the LDS Lake Shawnee Ward in Topeka.
