Kaw Area Technical School has created a one-year Commercial and Heavy Construction training program with courses starting in August.
The Commercial and Heavy Construction Program is being developed in response to multiple requests by the construction industry in Northeast Kansas, said a statement from KATS.
Construction is the second fastest growing employment sector in northeast Kansas, according to the Kansas Department of Labor. Kansas' mean wages in 2007 for occupations which graduates of the KATS Commercial and Heavy would be qualified range from $13.13 per hour for laborers to $18.32 per hour for pipe layers. Total openings statewide from 2002-2012 for the five occupations are projected to be 6,650 excluding truck driving.
