In "Dinner at Eight," the 1933 movie the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library will give a free screening of at 2 p.m. today, social-climbing sexpot Kitty Packard (Jean Harlow) bemoans, "Machines are taking the place of every profession." That sets up a great comeback from haughty aging actress Carlotta Vance (Marie Dressler), who says, "That, my dear, is something you never need to worry about!" The George Cukor-directed movie co-stars two Barrymores -- John and Lionel.

Country music fans in northeast Kansas will have an opportunity to see the 71-year-old singer-songwriter perform live at 7 p.m. Aug. 1 in the Great Lakes Ballroom of the Prairie Band Casino & Resort . A limited number of $25 tickets are on sale in the casino's gift shop for what was originally an invitation-only show in the Great Lakes Ballroom of the casino . Checker, 66, earned a Grammy in 1961 for "Let's Twist Again," and his No. 1 singles include "The Fly," "Limbo Rock," "Pony Time," "Popeye (The Hitchhiker)," "Slow Twistin' " and "The Twist."
