Former Topeka city attorney Brenden Long was released from a hospital after being treated for injuries suffered Thursday night in a collision between the bicycle he was riding and a Jeep Cherokee.
The crash occurred at 8:13 p.m. at S.W. 23rd and Edgewater Terrace, where police said Long was riding southbound on S.W. Edgewater Terrace when he was struck by a westbound Jeep Cherokee driven by Steven D. Martin, 49, of Topeka, who had failed to yield the right of way at the uncontrolled intersection.
Police cited Martin in connection with a right-of-way violation and driving without proof of insurance, said police spokeswoman Kristi Pankratz.
Long was wearing a helmet. He was taken to Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center, where a spokeswoman said he was treated, then released.
Long resigned Jan. 25 after serving in the city attorney's office for 21 years and being the city attorney since 2001.
