Two men in a green Ford Taurus eluded three law enforcement agencies Wednesday before deserting the vehicle in the 3600 block of S.E. US-40 highway, sheriff's deputies said.

Sheriff's deputies attempted to locate the car around 11:10 a.m. after receiving a report of a burglary and armed assault in the northeast part of Shawnee County, said Shawnee County sheriff's Sgt. Jay Simecka.

A man noticed the Ford at a relative's home and discovered two men burglarizing the residence. Simecka said one of the burglars pointed a handgun at the man and forced him to the back of the residence before they left the area in the car.

A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper and sheriff's deputy in Jefferson County located the Ford around 11:20 a.m. along K-4 highway. Law enforcement attempted to stop the Ford as it entered US-24 highway but were unable to do so.

The car was found abandoned at 1:08 p.m. in the 3600 block of S.E. US-40 highway. Neither of the occupants have been located.

Police said the burglars were described as a black man in his 20s, standing about 5-9 with a thin build. The second burglar was described as a white man in his 20s, standing about 6 feet tall.

Sheriff's detectives ask anyone with information about the incident to call (785) 368-2200.
