- William "Pat" Haley, of Topeka, has been given the 2008 William and Allene Guthrie Van Meter Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award from the board of directors of the Labette Community College Foundation and Alumni Association. Haley has been a law clerk for U.S. District Court Judge Richard Rogers for 28 years.
- The AT&T Foundation has awarded $10,000 in college scholarships to four children of AT&T employees in the Topeka area. Recipients are Preston Determan, of Holton, Augustana College; Kathryn Zapletal, of Manhattan, Kansas State University; Ashley Heptig, of Topeka, Kansas State University; and Sarah Swoboda, of Topeka, Emporia State University.
