Police arrested a juvenile Sunday evening in connection with the robbery and stabbing of a man with whom he shared an apartment in East Topeka, authorities said.

The stabbing victim was treated, then released, at St. Francis Health Center, said police Sgt. Charlie McCray.

Emergency responders were called about 4:20 p.m. to the 400 block of S.E. Arter, where McCray said the victim, identified only as a Hispanic man, had suffered a "minor laceration" to his right forearm.

The address is immediately north of a shopping center on S.E. 6th.

The victim was taken to St. Francis Health Center by American Medical Response ambulance.

Several dozen neighbors stood along sidewalks or on porches and steps leading to nearby apartments as emergency personnel brought the injured man from a two-story building to a waiting ambulance.

Police said the initial investigation was hampered by a language barrier, as the victim and two other people who were detained didn't speak English.

McCray said police later learned that the juvenile assailant, who was in his teens, and the adult victim had gotten into an argument. The juvenile took money from the victim, cutting him with a kitchen knife, McCray said.

The juvenile was located about a block away by Shawnee County sheriff's deputies and was taken into custody. He later was booked into the Shawnee County Juvenile Department of Corrections.

Police said a third resident of the apartment arrived after the incident had occurred.
