McCall is guest speaker at Greater Rochester Association for Women

Daily Record (Rochester, NY), Mar 12, 2004 by Nora A. Jones

Talking about legal opportunities and alternative legal careers in the Rochester area, Jennifer McCall of McCall Staffing Associates, LTD spoke to nearly two dozen women attorneys who made time in their schedules to attend a brown bag lunch hosted by the Greater Rochester Association for Women Attorneys. The meeting took place at the offices of Wolford & Leclair.

McCall is well known for matching paralegals and support staff within the legal community, but many don't realize she also handles attorney placements. And not all law school graduates wish to work in law firms, so McCall shared some ideas of alternative career choices.

Recruiting, research and writing, running not-for-profit organizations are just some of the options she touched on. She also noted that the small general practice firm may become extinct in the foreseeable future with overhead costs on the rise and standard services like real estate closings becoming a commodity.

Several local attorneys have been successful in leaving a large firm environment and starting their own boutique practice, noted McCall. The world is changing at such a fast pace its hard to be certain what exactly will be the mainstay down the road.

In discussing placing recent law school graduates, McCall indicated that extra curricular activities often make a difference on a resume. In one instance, a law firm turned down a top-notch student who had three years of work experience because they didn't have moot court or law review experience.
