LexisNexis changes passwords for all law school customers
Daily Record (Rochester, NY), Jul 8, 2005 by Rochester Daily Record Staff
LexisNexis has made some changes in their passwords for law school customers, mainly because of the recent identity thefts that have caused problems for the company and its associated companies.
A statement released by the company last week stated LexisNexis understands the responsibilities associated with safeguarding personal information about consumers and is implementing a customer security program for all customers.
As part of these efforts, LexisNexis is implementing several ID policy changes specifically for law school customers that went into effect as of June 29.
First, to reduce opportunities for access to the LexisNexis services by other than authorized users, all law school IDs (student, librarian, faculty and staff IDs) that were not used during the past 12 months were deactivated as of June 29.
Also, each current law school customer (students, librarians, faculty and staff) must register his or her seven-digit lexis.com ID and create a custom ID and password that will be used to access the LexisNexis services.
Second and third year law school students and faculty members who have not already created a custom ID and password will be required to do so when accessing the LexisNexis services. Law students, librarians, faculty and staff members who have already created a custom ID and password will not be affected by these changes. However, the custom IDs and passwords must be used to access the LexisNexis services.
For security reasons, LexisNexis sales representatives, customer support and the main contacts at law schools will not have the ability to obtain or view any customer passwords. Law school customers who need password assistance can use the Forgot Password link on the law school home page, or call customer support.
Contact the local LexisNexis account representative or call customer support at 1 (800) 45-LEXIS with any questions regarding the new law school ID policy.
