Simon School ranks in London's 'Financial Times'

Daily Record (Rochester, NY), Jan 31, 2007 by Daily Record Staff

The Simon Graduate School of Business at the University of Rochester recently ranked 38th among the world's top 100 business schools, according to an annual survey conducted by London-based Financial Times.

The school ranked 40th in 2006.

Simon was tied at 22nd among U.S. business schools, and finished 23rd in that list last year.

The recent ranking marks the seventh time the school has been ranked in the top 25 in the country by the London paper, which this year conducted its survey for the ninth time.

"We are indeed gratified by this international recognition from the Financial Times," said Dean Mark Zapan. "Our ultimate goal is to continue providing our students with a first-rate graduate business education while remaining committed to a process of continual improvement."

In specialty areas and based on alumni recommendations, the newspaper also ranked Simon fourth in the world for managerial economics; and fifth in the world for both finance and accounting.

The survey is described by Financial Times as a "comprehensive assessment of the value of an MBA and the schools that offer them." This most recent survey was based on information collected from 155 business schools and class of 2003 graduates.

Schools are ranked on career progression accrued from the MBA; diversity; research; placement statistics (including salary percentage increase and weighted salaries); diversity of the schools' students, faculty and board members; and the statistics of faculty and research.

Simon has also been ranked in the past by BusinessWeek, U.S. News & World Report, The Wall Street Journal and Forbes.
