Dedication ceremonies set for UCO's renovated library

The University of Central Oklahoma will dedicate its renovated Max Chambers Library Monday at 1 p.m.
A $9.8 million addition doubled the library's size, added group study rooms and a microcomputer lab. Lt. Gov. Mary Fallin and civil rights activist Hannah Atkins will be among the guests at the dedication of the library at the southeast corner of Ayers and University Drive in Edmond.
"Basically, we've doubled our space," said Jane Taylor, reference department director. "There's now more room for resources, reading and research." With the addition, the library has more than 205,000 square feet of space, more work spaces and a new reading room. The addition is joined to the old library building with a continuous skylight and central stairway. Architectural firms RGDC Inc. and HTB Inc. designed the addition. Flintco Inc. was construction manager for the project. National Homeownership Week Oklahoma City Partners in Homeownership and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will hold a homeownership fair Saturday to put prospective home buyers in touch with lenders, realtors, credit counselors and home builders. The fair will be in the Made in Oklahoma building at the State Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. "We feel it's an effective way to reach out to potential new home buyers, especially those who have perhaps been in the underserved market before, first-time home buyers, women home buyers and minorities," said Margaret Milner, Oklahoma state coordinator for HUD. "People go around and ask their questions of lenders and realtors and sort of begin to get a sense of where to go in terms of buying a home." Kevin Marchman, assistant secretary for public and Indian housing at HUD will present an award to the Oklahoma City Homeownership Partnership for its efforts in the last year. The partnership includes the City of Oklahoma City, the Metro Fair Housing Council, Neighborhood Housing Services and the Home Builders Association. More than furniture Mathis Brothers Furniture Co. is building a Texaco service station on land it owns at Reno Avenue and Portland Avenue. A 5,000-square foot building under construction at the site will contain a Texaco service station and a full service branch of MidFirst Bank, according to Mathis Brothers vice president Calvin Worth. Jester & Associates Inc. is the contractor on the project. Worth said construction should be completed by the first of August. Transactions Two companies leased space in The Tower at 1601 Northwest Expressway. DLB Oil and Gas Inc. added 20,000 square feet to its offices in the building. IBM moved its offices from Oklahoma Tower to 12,800 square feet in The Tower. Shaun Frankfurt and Jeff Hardy of Trammell Crow Company/OKC handled the transactions. BankOne Financial and Bayard Drilling Techechnologies Inc. opened offices in Lakepointe Towers East. Shaun Frankfurt of Trammell Crow Company/OKC handled the transactions. Hughes Supply leased 20,160 square feet in 4132 Will Rogers Parkway. CD Warehouse leased 10,929 square feet at 1204 Sovereign Row. Linda Darnell of Trammell Crow Company/OKC handled the transactions. Spectrum Paint leased 13,000 square feet at 7500 S. Santa Fe. Ron Dixon of Trammell Crow Company/OKC handled the transaction. Dr. Janet Hendricks will move her dental clinic to #500 Appletree Square at 11317 S. Western Ave. She purchased the unit for $110,000 from BancFirst Commercial Capital. Joe Coker of Coldwell Banker Commercial Hocker-Sullivan & Associates handled the transaction. Clyde A. Riggs and Eagle Drilling Fluids, Inc. will move their corporate offices to 809 NW 57th St. The company purchased the office building for $54,000 from Local Federal Bank, F.S.B. Bob Sullivan of Coldwell Banker Commercial Hocker-Sullivan & Assoc. handled the transaction. Jackie Hatton of American Guaranty Title Company closed both sales. People Trammell Crow Company/Oklahoma City has named Scott Weed vice president of marketing. Weed will be responsible for the leasing of Trammell Crow managed office and warehouse properties. He previously worked as customer sales manager for Kraft Foods. Melanie Compton, project architect at Rees Associates Inc. received her license from the American Institue of Architects. She earned a bachelor's degree in architecture at the University of Oklahoma and has worked three years for Rees Associates. Events Events planned through the weekend should keep metro area architects and contractors occupied. The Associated General Contractors of America holds its summer conference golf tournament at Shangri-La Resort Saturday. On Sunday, the American Institute of Architects Central Oklahoma Chapter will hold a new documents seminar about B141 and A201 documents from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the City Arts Center. The Norman Board of Realtors will offer a VA financing class for three hours of continuing education credit June 18 at Assurance Title in Norman. Those that attend must be licensed real estate agents, but do not have to be members of the Norman Board of Realtors. Cost is $15 to non-members. The class will be from 9 a.m. to noon at Assurance Title at 3100 Northwest Blvd., Suite A. Call Robin Johnson at the board office to register. In a humorous take on real estate licensing requirements, Dale Baze will present "100 Ways to Lose a Real Estate License" Thursday at Metro Tech, 1900 Springlake Drive. Baze is the education coordinator for the Oklahoma Real Estate Commission. The seminar costs $10 for non-members, and lasts from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Contractors and business owners can receive a full update on Building Officials and Code Administrators Codes at a June 26 seminar presented by the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce. The seminar will include information on possible international code changes as well as Oklahoma City amendments to the BOCA Codes. The seminar will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City campus, 900 N. Portland. Registration is $55 for chamber members and $65 for non-members.
