More medieval, less sand
PARIS (AP) -- Mont Saint Michel will return to its medieval state as a rocky village in the Atlantic, French officials said Thursday after the government approved an $86 million project to remove the sand around it. The project to "re-establish the maritime character" of the village and its 13th-century abbey is expected to take seven years.
