Toyota Camry, Ford F-series top list, again

Journal Record, The (Oklahoma City), Jan 7, 1999

DETROIT (AP) -- The Toyota Camry and Ford's F-series pickup were America's favorite car and truck again in 1998, and it wasn't a very close contest.

Figures released Wednesday show the Camry won the sales crown for the second year in a row, with 429,575 cars sold. The Honda Accord was second again with 401,071, and the Ford Taurus was No. 3 with 371,074. Camry more than doubled the edge it had last year, when there were 12,000 more Camrys sold than Accords.

For the 17th straight year, the Ford F-series pickup was the best- selling vehicle overall. A total of 836,629 of the pickups sold, the most for any model in the United States in two decades. A distant second was the Chevrolet pickup, with 538,254 sold.
