Ending the screw debate?

NEW YORK (NYT) -- Many years ago, a traveling wine industry reporter ordered a bottle of a grand cru Chablis at a restaurant in Stockholm. The wine steward presented the bottle with the usual flourish. Then he unscrewed the cap. Sometime after that the same reporter visited one of the vast cellars under the streets of Rheims, France, where millions of bottles of Champagne are housed while they mature. This cellar was filled with bottles of reserve wines, which were to be used later in nonvintage blends. Each bottle was capped with the same kind of metal closure found on bottles of Coca-Cola.
