Bank One, e-Visa team up to offer new online service

Journal Record, The (Oklahoma City), Dec 1, 1999 by Ray Dozier The Journal Record

Bank One and e-Visa, the Internet unit of Visa USA, on Tuesday unveiled the bankonewallet, a new service designed to save time for customers when they shop.

Available to bank customers through www.bankone.com/ bankonewallet, the service streamlines online shopping by storing account numbers, billing and shipping information in one "virtual wallet," as well as transferring payment instructions to a point of sale with a few simple clicks. This eliminates the need to key in account numbers, payment and shipping instructions for every online purchase. The bankonewallet also may be used on different personal computers at home, at work and on the road.

The system allows consumers to manage multiple payment cards and shipping addresses, track online purchases, store user IDs and passwords, provide links to online merchants, offer product and merchant search capabilities and promote special offers from selected online merchants. The free bankonewallet service has been designed to work with The One card -- Bank One's Visa check card -- as well as any Visa payment card. Customers may use the bankonewallet with The One card to pay for all their online purchases directly from their Bank One checking accounts. It is accessible to users of any of the following software packages: AOL 4.0, Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 (or higher) or Netscape 4.0 (or higher). The service is not accessible with a Macintosh operating system. More than 300 online merchants will accept the service, which employs Secure Sockets Layer's 128-bit software technology to encrypt information online.
