Boating enthusiasts can get their first look at the 2000 boats and personal watercraft during the annual Oklahoma City Winter Boat Show, which begins at 4 p.m. Friday at the State Fairgrounds.

Other exhibits at the show include marine accessories and services, family vacation and fishing opportunities and a wide variety of retail items and services.

The show which runs this weekend and Feb. 4-6. Eleven metro area boat dealers will display hundreds of boats.

The OKC Boat Dealers Association sponsors the boat show each year. David's Sport Center, Gordon's Inland Marine, H&H Marine, Ken's Boat Sales, Norris Marine and The Boat House are the members of the boat dealers association. The boat show began in 1955 to bring Oklahoma City area boat dealers together for a big preseason sale. The hours of the show are 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays, and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays. Adult admission is $5, but $1 off discount coupons are available at all area 7-Eleven stores. Children under 12 will get in free.

Getting their kicks

The Oklahoma Route 66 Association's annual meeting is scheduled at 1 p.m. Saturday in the meeting room behind Hillbillees in Arcadia. The meeting is open to the general public. The agenda will include a report on 1999 activities as well as events for 2000. The group also will elect officers. Only current members may vote or hold office; however, membership forms will be available at the meeting for anyone who would like to join. A one-year individual membership fee is $15. The focus of the group is preservation, education and the promotion of commerce and tourism along the 400 miles of Route 66 in Oklahoma. For more information, call Joe Kisicki at 348-3589.
