Federal Employees Credit Union opens second downtown branch
Journal Record, The (Oklahoma City), Dec 10, 2002 by Ray Carter
To increase its accessibility to the general public, the Federal Employees Credit Union will open a new branch at 101 N. Robinson Ave. the week of Dec. 16.
The office will be on the second floor, suite 210 of the Corporate Towers Building.
The credit union already has another branch in downtown Oklahoma City in the old Post Office Building at 215 Dean A. McGee Ave., Suite 343.
However, to enter that facility, customers must pass through several security measures including metal detectors, "so for a lot of people it's not convenient," said Laurie Stratton, vice president of corporate development for the credit union.
Because the Federal Employees Credit Union was recently granted a "community charter" that opens membership to anyone working or living in the Oklahoma City area, the credit union needed a facility that was more accessible to the general public, Stratton said.
"We needed another branch downtown with better public access," she said.
Previously, membership was mostly limited to government employees.
