Okla. Corporation Commission Chairman Denise Bode to serve on FCC

Journal Record, The (Oklahoma City), Dec 22, 2003 by Journal Record staff

Oklahoma Corporation Commission Chairman Denise Bode has accepted an invitation to serve on the Federal Communications Commission's Intergovernmental Advisory Committee.

The invitation came from FCC Chairman Michael Powell.

The IAC will serve as a valuable source and guidance to the FCC on a broad range of telecommunications issues of concern to local, state and tribal governments, said Powell. The IAC will provide a wide range of viewpoints and expertise, which are critical to informed decision-making, as the FCC's focus and priorities evolve over time in response to technical, market, and other changes in the telecommunications sectors.

Bode called the invitation an honor and a challenge.

The telecommunications revolution has given rise to fundamental policy questions that go to the very heart of regulation and consumers' rights, said Bode. Whether all will realize the promise such technology offers is a matter which could well hinge on the policy decisions made over the next few years on both the federal and state levels.

Bode's term on the IAC ends Jan. 31, 2006.
