Oklahoma Senate backs contribution restrictions

Journal Record, The (Oklahoma City), Apr 19, 2005 by Journal Record Staff

A bill proposing a ban on campaign contributions within the state Capitol was approved Monday by the state Senate.

House Bill 2058, by Rep. John Trebilcock, R-Broken Arrow, and Sen. John Ford, R-Tulsa, makes it a misdemeanor for any elected official to receive a contribution while inside the Capitol. Ford said this would help alleviate some of the negative public perception involving elected officials.

The bill passed despite concern by Sen. Frank Shurden, D- Henryetta, who asked if organizations would be allowed to buy box lunches for legislators at the Capitol.
