OKC-based Oklahoma Heart Hospital to present case study to media at
Journal Record, The (Oklahoma City), Apr 29, 2005 by Journal Record Staff
The lead computer systems specialist for the nation's first all- digital hospital, the Oklahoma Heart Hospital, will present a case study of the hospital's technical development to the international media at the Infosecurity Europe 2005.
When data systems experts from other facilities visit the Oklahoma Heart Hospital they are in awe, not because of the software or hardware but rather the configuration that sets us apart, said Jeff Jones, OHH lead systems specialist. One of the most unique capabilities of our system is that all of the computers are remotely concealed; with no noise, no fans to spread contaminants, and no chance of infection getting imbedded in the computer because the computer isn't physically in the room.
Jones will present his data to the media as part of the Clear Cube exhibition at Infosecurity Europe 2005. Over 10,000 visitors are expected to attend the event.
Officials claimed the OHH data system can move a patient through the information flow faster, more efficiently and safer. The OHH is a completely paperless facility, with computers in every patient room, every operating room, emergency room station, nurses station, radiology suite, imaging suite, procedure room and physicians' office. The only visible appearance of the computer in each room is a keyboard, monitor and small silver box on the wall. The actual computing capability is networked in a central systems operation room located in an isolated location within the hospital. All of the maintenance and upgrades are performed there rather than requiring technicians to interrupt a patient in their room and risk the spread of hospital borne infections.
