Thousands of detachable items inside Colcord Bldg. in OKC to be

Journal Record, The (Oklahoma City), Jun 29, 2005 by Brandice J. O'Brien

The Colcord Building will undergo a major renovation starting Friday. Late next summer it is scheduled to reopen as the Colcord Hotel, a boutique hotel. Before restoration can begin, a major auction will be held at 2 p.m. today in the lobby at 15 N. Robinson Ave. to sell anything left behind by previous tenants.

And anything means everything.

The windows, doors, hinges, doorknobs and ceiling tiles are among the items on hand.

Items that can be detached are for sale. There are thousands of objects available, said Louis Dakil, president and owner of Dakil Auctioneers. His company is hosting the auction.

There are pages and pages of things available, said Stephen B. Browne, general partner of the Colcord Building. Once demolition and renovation start, these things will go to the dump.

Registration begins at 1 p.m. in the lobby, which is the only area not being refurbished.

Everything will go to the highest bidder, Dakil said.

Dakil said the most popular items will be the things that aren't found easily anymore including the marble/bronze eagle, Oyster Bar neon sign, antique doorknobs and the fire hose reels.
