Dwight E. Adams has been named director of the University of Central Oklahoma's new Forensic Science Institute.
Adams, who received his bachelor's degree in biology from UCO in 1977, has served as director of the FBI Laboratory in Quantico, Va., since 2002.
Adams developed the Bioforensics Analysis Center in association with the Department of Homeland Security to provide dedicated laboratory facilities to the FBI in terrorism cases involving weapons of mass destruction.
Adams also created the Terrorist Explosives Device Analytical Center to serve the entire U.S. government in the dissemination of intelligence from the analysis of improvised explosive devices from throughout the world, especially in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Not only will Dr. Adams bring instant international recognition to our Forensics Institute, but he also will bring a real passion for advances in forensic science, said Roger Webb, president of UCO.
UCO is currently in the planning process for building a new $5.7 million Forensic Science Institute, which will be directly across Second Street from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Forensics Laboratory, which is currently under construction.
Construction on UCO's Forensic Science Institute is scheduled to begin late this year.
Adams will begin his duties as director on July 1.
