Cameron University receives Perkins grant

Journal Record, The (Oklahoma City), Jan 4, 2007 by Journal Record Staff

Cameron University has been awarded $57,157 through the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Grant Program.

Cameron has received $1.1 million since receiving its first Perkins grant in 1991.

Cameron also received a $30,000 gift from Johnny Owens Commercial Properties.

The gift represents the second Pillar of Support donation for the construction of the new Centennial Student Activities Complex as part of the Cameron University: Changing Lives campaign. In August, Dan and Diane Mullins presented the university with the first Pillar of Support donation.

Contributions at the Pillar of Support level allow donors to make a significant commitment to the campaign and spread the payment of the donation over a three-year period at a rate of $10,000 per year.

The Student Activities Complex will include a 400-seat ballroom.

Contributions and pledges for the complex total $5.8 million, or 89 percent of the $6.5 million goal. Construction is expected to start during the 2008-2009 school year.
