City of Bethany plans landscaping
Journal Record, The (Oklahoma City), Mar 8, 2007 by Journal Record Staff
The University of Oklahoma Division of Landscape Architecture is working with the city of Bethany and the Oklahoma Scenic Byways program to prepare a master plan for a two-block area of the old Route 66 in Bethany.
"This project is primarily conducted through the formal studio setting where students, faculty, and municipalities partner to form design teams," said Leehu Loon, assistant professor of landscape architecture at OU. "The design teams explore topics relating to highly urbanized areas, main street and neighborhood revitalization, community design and planning, growth management, economic development, environmental impact analysis, commercial strip enhancement, park and open space planning, climate analysis and amelioration, and historic preservation of cultural landscapes."
Route 66 is designated as a state scenic byway. The Oklahoma Scenic Byways Program is a coordinated partnership between the Federal Highways Administration, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, and the University of Oklahoma Outreach.
