Cameron University in Lawton receives donation for student complex

Journal Record, The (Oklahoma City), Apr 23, 2007

Cameron University in Lawton has received a $30,000 gift from the Carey and Mary Lou Johnson family to go toward construction of the new Centennial Student Activities Complex as part of the Cameron University: Changing Lives campaign.

"The Johnson family has been a lead supporter and a strong advocate of Cameron University for many years," said Cindy Ross, Cameron president.

The Johnson Family's support to Cameron University dates back to 1989 when Carey Johnson Sr. helped form the CU President's Partners.

The Student Activities Complex will provide students a central location to study, dine, interact and relax. The facility will also include a 400-seat, divisible ballroom.

The Johnson donation increased money raised or pledged for construction of the student complex to $5.9 million, or 92 percent of the $6.5 million goal.
