Tulsa-based PennWell Corp. plans new optical technology magazine

Journal Record, The (Oklahoma City), Sep 19, 2007

PennWell Corp. plans to publish a new magazine - Bio-Optics World.

The Tulsa-based company plans to launch the bimonthly magazine and Web site in January at BiOS 2008, part of the SPIE Photonics West 2008 exhibition in San Jose, Calif.

Bio-Optics World will focus on optical technologies for the study, diagnosis, and treatment of disease and disease processes. It is intended for biomedical researchers and engineers involved in the development and fabrication of optical components and systems used in the life sciences, as well as for scientists and clinicians who use the technologies, including biologists, physicists, physicians, pathologists, forensic scientists, pharmaceutical companies and government agencies.

"The goal of Bio-Optics World is to provide engineers, biologists, researchers, and clinicians with a magazine and Web site that will facilitate the sharing of ideas among these disciplines," said Christine Shaw, group publisher and senior vice president. "In essence, Bio-Optics World is designed to appeal to anyone interested in understanding how light interacts with the human body at the cellular, molecular, and tissue levels, and what the implications of this might be in the diagnosis and treatment of disease."

PennWell publishes 75 print and online magazines and newsletters.
