Great Plains Technology Center in Lawton to build emergency response

Journal Record, The (Oklahoma City), Oct 22, 2007

Great Plains Technology Center will break ground on Nov. 5 on a two-story, 22,000-square-foot emergency response building. The art facility will be built by Homeland Security specifications for the consolidated E-911 operations for the city of Lawton and Comanche County. It will also serve as the emergency operations center for the region. All emergency management functions including communications being operated from the center.

The ground level, second story will house the technology center's law enforcement program and the Lawton Police Department Training Center. The facility will include the firearms training system and driving simulator. The facility will also be used to train area volunteer fire departments. "The new center is a huge step forward for our whole area," said Gale Turner, Comanche County Commissioner, Eastern District. "It will have something for everyone - dispatch for fire, police and security. Because it'll be located in neutral ground at Great Plains Technology Center, it's not going to belong to the city or to the county. It will belong to our community, to our citizens.
