Tulsa-based Alliance Resource Partners plans to open new mine

Journal Record, The (Oklahoma City), Apr 28, 2008

Alliance Resource Partners plans to open a new mine for the development of reserves in Union County, Ky.

The coal reserves were part of Tulsa-based Alliance Resource's purchase of River View Coal in April. Alliance expects to develop River View as an underground mining complex operating up to eight mining units and producing up to 6.4 million tons of coal annually.

Alliance expects coal sales of 800,000 tons from River View in the fourth quarter. Coal sales from River View are expected to increase to 5.2 million tons in 2010 and 6.4 million tons in 2011.

The company's board also approved the addition of a fifth mining unit at the Warrior Coal mining complex, near Madisonville, Ky. The unit is expected to begin production in the first quarter of 2009.

Alliance operates eight underground mining complexes in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland and West Virginia.
