Grant writing workshops offered in two Oklahoma cities

Journal Record, The (Oklahoma City), Jul 3, 2008

The Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department has scheduled grant writing workshops in Vinita in July and in Okmulgee in August.

Melyn Johnson from the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department will present the workshops.

"We are committed to giving communities the tools they need to grow their tourism potential and our state's tourism industry, said Hardy Watkins, executive director of the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department. "Funding is a challenge for everyone and it is our goal to help Oklahomans be better equipped to successfully meet that challenge. These workshops are a way for our agency to support community efforts to create sustainable tourism opportunities that benefit our state's economy and quality of life."

The two-day workshops will primarily address community and tourism development activities, including museums, tourism destination areas, libraries, arts and humanities programs and community beautification.

The Vinita class is scheduled July 22-23 at Summerside Vineyards and Winery. Okmulgee Main Street is host for the class at the Okmulgee City Library on August 26-27. Both workshops have a $40 fee.

The classes begin at 10 a.m. on the first day, ending at 4 p.m. The second day, the session starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. The cost of the class includes all materials. There is a limit of 15 participants for each class.

Registration information is available by calling (405) 613-8553.
