OKC Events: July 15, 2008
Journal Record, The (Oklahoma City), Jul 15, 2008 by Joan Gilmore
Favorite chefs are trading places again. Five from Oklahoma City and five from Tulsa will trade places for the annual Odyssey de Culinaire, an elegant evening of fine wine and delicious culinary creations.
The gimmick: The five from Oklahoma City will cook in Tulsa and the five from Tulsa will do their thing in Oklahoma City.
The Oklahoma Restaurant Association will start the fun July 31 at Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma City. Five taste arenas will be set up and manned by the Tulsa chefs, Devin Levine (Southern Hills Country Club), Tuck Curren (Biga and The Local Table), Justin Thompson (The Brasserie), Trevor Tack (So. Chey Jazz Cafe) and Geoff Van Gleebeek (Lava Noshery). Diners will be treated to a six-course meal and an accompanying wine selection, as well as a dish preparation presentation from each of the chefs.
Two weeks later, on Aug. 14, Oklahoma City chefs will prepare a fabulous dining experience for Tulsa attendees at Southern Hills Country Club. OKC chefs are Brad Evers (Gaillardia Country Club), Christine Dowd (Trattoria il Centro and Aunt Pitty Pat's Catering), Robert Black (RedPrime Steak, Cheevers Cafe and Iron Starr BBQ), Joseph Royer (Saturn Grill) and David Henry (Western Concepts and Sushi Neko).
Reservations are $125 per event or $200 for both evenings. Those wishing to attend may call (800) 375-8181 or visit www.okrestaurants.com. Seating is limited so reservations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
Proceeds from this event benefit the ORA's Hospitality Career Initiative, which provides education and mentor programs to help young people develop the skills needed for careers in the culinary and hospital industries.
A fashion walk
A Walk Down the Runway is the theme of a fashion show, workshop and luncheon July 25 at Tulsa's Asbury United Methodist Church. Sponsored by the Tulsa office of the Alzheimer's Association, the event will feature a Healthy Brain Strategies workshop, in addition to the show highlighting local designers and boutiques.
Admission is $40 per person or $30 for Memory Walk team captains. Proceeds will benefit the Memory Walk scheduled Oct. 4 at Oral Roberts University.
Registration for the luncheon will be at 9:30 a.m. with the workshop, "Maintain Your Brain," from 10 until 11 a.m. A silent auction also is planned. The program will conclude with team registrations from 12:30 until 1 p.m. For more information, call (918) 481-7782.
