Edmond's got talent: Aspiring performers have venue in Edmond to

Journal Record, The (Oklahoma City), Jun 18, 2009

Aspiring performers have a venue in Edmond to exhibit their talent. The Edmond Parks and Recreation Department is the host for Amateur Talent Night on Tuesday evenings throughout the summer at Hafer Park.

The call is out for singers, dancers, acrobats, magicians, comedians, martial artists and other performers to take center stage under a canopy of trees and before a live audience in lawn chairs.

"We know Edmond's got talent, and we are encouraging amateur performers to showcase those talents," said Diane Self, recreation manager for the department. "This isn't a competition event. It's an opportunity to perform and to entertain a live audience."

There is no application fee and no age limit for performers, although a parent or guardian will need to sign the application for performers under the age of 18. Scripts and song lyrics are submitted with the application to ensure the performances are family- friendly.

A microphone and speakers will be provided and performers can bring a CD to play for their soundtrack or background music. Each performer is given 15 minutes to set up, perform and exit the stage.

Edmond Parks and Recreation Amateur Talent Night will start at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday and the last act will perform by 8 p.m., depending on the number of entertainers. The talent night is each Tuesday through Aug. 4.
