Phillips Foods relocates to South Baltimore, increases crab cakes
Daily Record, The (Baltimore), Apr 4, 2002 by Nancy Kercheval
With the new manufacturing space available, Sneed hopes to expand the value-added lines - those where the tuna, mahi mahi, grouper or snapper are pre-grilled, stuffed, sauced. The frozen Phillips products available in retail stores already claim the No. 1 spot as the favorite frozen seafood products, according to IRI, a national tracking system.
In the future, Phillips crab products are making their way into airports under a partnership deal with Host Marriott. By next year, Sneed expects to be in 60 to 80 airports.
It also is exploring the possibility of quick-service restaurants in food courts in malls from Philadelphia to Richmond. Sneed expects to have two to four quick-service units operating this year, and another two to four next year.
At least two new Phillips restaurants also will be added to the family shortly. Sneed said the company is looking at Atlantic City, Philadelphia, Alexandria and Prince George's County.
Phillips Foods is filling a unique need. That's why the growth is so phenomenal, Sneed said. It's been quite a ride.
